Wall Texturing & Texture Matching in Leander, TX

Texture is the part most repairs get wrong. The drywall work can be perfect and the patch will still shout at you from across the room if the texture doesn't match: wrong spray pressure, wrong knockdown timing, edges that stop dead instead of feathering out. It's the difference between a fixed wall and an obviously fixed wall.

Knockdown, orange peel and skip trowel are what Central Texas builders used, and they're what I match every week. I texture new walls and whole rooms too, and I'll always do a test board against your wall before anything goes on it.

What that includes

  • Texture matching into existing walls and ceilings
  • Knockdown, orange peel and skip trowel
  • Hand-troweled and sprayed application
  • Whole-room and new-wall texturing
  • Feathering and blending at the repair edge
  • Retexture after popcorn ceiling removal

How I go about it

  1. Read what is already there

Knockdown, orange peel and skip trowel were all applied by hand. I look at yours in raking light to work out the spray weight and how long they waited before knocking it down.

  2. Prepare the surface

Texture over a bad surface is a bad surface with a pattern on it. Repairs go flat and primed first.

  3. Test on a board

I mix, spray and knock down a sample board and hold it against your wall. Sometimes that is the first attempt, sometimes the fourth.

  4. Apply and feather

Sprayed to match, knocked down at the same timing, and feathered out into the existing texture rather than stopped at a hard line.

  5. Paint to the right edge

A perfect texture match still shows if it is spot-painted onto eight-year-old paint. I will say up front whether yours needs the whole wall.

I get asked for wall texturing most often in Leander, Liberty Hill, Hutto.

Written quotescope and price, before anything starts

I look at the job, then put the scope and the price in writing before anything starts. What is written down is what I will do and what it will cost, so there is no conversation at the end about what was and was not included. If I find something unexpected behind the wall you hear about it before I carry on, not after.

Common questions

About wall texturing

Can you actually match my texture?

Nearly always. I'll spray a test board and hold it against your wall in the room's own light before I touch the repair. Spray pressure, mud thinness and how long you wait before knocking it down all change the result, and the only way to be sure is to try it against the real thing.

Why does my last repair still show?

Usually one of two things: the texture stops at the patch edge instead of feathering out over a wider area, or it was rolled on when the surrounding wall was sprayed. Both read instantly once light rakes across the wall. Both are fixable.
