The paint is the easy part. The reason a job looks good in five years is the prep: patching, caulking gaps, sanding, and priming what needs it. I do that part right, cut clean lines by hand, roll full even coats, and cover your floors and furniture like it's my own.

Inside or out: a single accent wall, a whole interior, faded exterior and trim, or tired cabinets and doors brought back to life.

How I go about it

1. Wash it down

   Especially kitchens, hallways and around door handles. Paint does not stick to grease, and it lets go later in exactly those places.

2. Fill, sand and caulk

   Every hole and dent filled slightly proud then sanded flat, and the trim-to-wall joint caulked. That line is what your eye follows around a room.

3. Texture and prime first

   Any repair big enough to need texture is textured and matched before painting. Bare filler, bare wood and any stain get primed.

4. Mask and protect

   Floors covered, edges taped, fixtures off rather than painted around.

5. Two coats, cut in properly

   Not one generous coat. Colour depth and durability both come from the second, and the cut-in is done by hand.
